In Australia, the world’s first asbestos center has opened. The center will examine early treatment of asbestos related diseases as well as ways to improve treatments.
As asbestos related diseases, like mesothelioma and asbestosis, are extremely difficult to treat the center is placing a large emphasis on educating the public on the dangers of asbestos in hopes to prevent asbestos related illnesses.
The center has been named for Bernie Banton, an extremely outspoken campaigner for asbestos related illnesses who died in 2007 of mesothelioma. Banton was a large part of why asbestos related disease sufferers won a Billion compensation packaged from his former employer, James Hardie Industries.
